ABOUT ENCLAVE JIU-JITSU
Enclave Jiu-Jitsu is a martial arts community run by Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Kodokan Judo black belt Scott Burr. It is based out of a private training facility located in Northeast Ohio (30 minutes E/SE of Cleveland), but incorporates classes and seminars that occur all over the U.S. Visit the TRAINING + EVENTS page to see if an Enclave event is happening near you, or find out how to host Scott at your school or training facility. ABOUT SCOTT BURR
Scott's martial arts journey began in November of 1999, when he started training in the Korean art of Kuk Sul Do. After four years of dedicated practice, he was awarded his black belt by Federation President and Founder Choon Shik Yang in November of 2003. As the UFC rose to mainstream prominence in the mid-2000s, Scott and his instructors and training partners at the Kuk Sul Do Academy became interested in Mixed Martial Arts. Accordingly, over the next few years, the Academy played host to regular classes and seminars taught by instructors in Muay Thai, boxing, and—particularly—Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. During this same period of time, the Kuk Sul Do Academy expanded to include a second training space—"The Fight Gym"—equipped with an MMA octagon, heavy bags, and a suite of strength and conditioning equipment, which hosted a full schedule of MMA-focused classes and training sessions. In September of 2008, the Kuk Sul Do Academy/The Fight Gym hosted a seminar with early BJJ black belt and notable coach and trainer Steve Maxwell. At the conclusion of that seminar, Steve awarded Scott and others their blue belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Scott's training in BJJ continued under Steve's guidance for the next several years, as he ran a full schedule of BJJ and strength & conditioning classes at The Fight Gym. During this same period of time, Scott traveled often with Steve to assist at seminars and certifications, and to film content for Steve's online video instructional library. Steve promoted Scott to the rank of purple belt in April of 2010, and brown belt in the spring of 2012. In April of 2014 Steve promoted Scott to the rank of black belt, the first time he had awarded the rank. Steve further awarded Scott his professor's bars in 2016, and his first and second black belt degrees in 2017 and 2020, respectively. In the summer of 2014, Scott began training in the art of Kodokan Judo. After training intensively and competing in the art, Scott was awarded his black belt by representatives of the Konan Yudanshakai in September of 2017. In that same month, Scott attended a seminar taught by Master Rickson Gracie in Albany, NY. Scott had the opportunity to work directly with Master Rickson during the seminar, and afterwards approached him about continuing to train with and learn from him. Following this meeting, Scott began to travel regularly to Southern California to train privately with Master Rickson. In 2023, Master Rickson awarded Scott his third black belt degree. Scott is extremely grateful to all of his teachers, and is very proud to have earned their recognition. He continues to do his best to share the knowledge they have been generous enough to share with him. |
